for adding additional softwware, controlling disk formatting and partitioning, and whatever else, check here for mircosoft's reference to all the commands you can stuff in the winnt.sif file. also take a look at the setup manager help file that comes with the updated xp sp1 deployment tools.

Forgive the dumb question, but what about situations where the driver is in an executable? For example, nVidia's Detonator drivers. Do I have to scrounge through my system finding all the appropriate driver files?

Any additional direction on this would be very helpful, this is all a bit new to me. :oops:

Notice that the Nvidia .exe file asks to expand to a directory? You can use this. Else, you can use WinZip to extract the files.

So do I need to go into that directory and expand those files?

I just did all this but I can't test it for a while. But this is a great post. Should be made sticky.

Didn't work for me :(

Postby TonyKL » Tue Mar 11, 2003 11:02 am

Great guide, but it didn't work for me :(
I tried 3 times (next time it's going to be a CD-RW - doh!)

Got no errors or anything when working throught the guide but when I rebooted and tried to boot from the CD I got "Could not load NTLDR"

Any ideas?

Well, I would think about tryingthis guide to create the XP CD. Then use this to create the automated file. Then come back to this post and make the additions required for the SATA raid thing. I mean read the guide closely, make sure you are doing everything correctly. I just tested mine, it worked perfectly, except for it didn't find the drivers for most of the hardware once Windows was installed. Like I thought that by putting the drivers in the OEM folder and all, it would automatically do all those while installing, but it didnt. Although having all the drivers like that in one place does make installing them manually easier. Any ideas for why windows wouldn't locate the drivers? My subdirs are as follow:

G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\3COM\DISK1
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\3COM\DISK2
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\ASUS\AudioDrv
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\ASUS\AudioUtl
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\ASUS\Ethernet
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\ASUS\GART
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\ASUS\IDE\WinXP
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\ASUS\MemCtl
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\ASUS\SmartIO
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\ASUS\SMBus
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\ATI\3.1
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\ATI\CP
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\LeadTek\ALLTVDRV
G:\Backups\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\SATA\GUI

(short form, so I don't introduce dirs but rather subdirs, you should get the idea of what the Drivers folder looks like)
I point to each relevent subdir correctly in the winnt.sif
OemPnPDriversPath=Drivers\ATI\3.1;
Drivers\ATI\CP;Drivers\SATA;
Drivers\LeadTek\ALLTVDRV;
Drivers\3Com\Disk1;
Drivers\3Com\Disk2\;
Drivers\ASUS\AudioDrv;
Drivers\ASUS\AudioUtl;
Drivers\ASUS\Ethernet;
Drivers\ASUS\GART;
Drivers\ASUS\MemCtl;
Drivers\ASUS\SmartIO;Drivers\ASUS\IDE;
Drivers\ASUS\SMBus
(only on the same line).

Well it isn't a big deal, if anyone knows why, let me know, otherwise, awesome post.
(Although I still like ghosting full drives better (cause I still have to do a bunch of annoying installs.))[/url]

I forgot. Is there a way to make sure that the installer formats the C:\ drive as an NFTS? I will never want to use this disc unless I am trying to perform a clean install. And as nothing but windows goes on my C:\ drive, I will always want to reformat it before installing, is there a way?

Great reference, I already created a slipstreamed SP1, but with the MB drivers and stuff, that's fantastic ! :P

make sure you are following the instructions for a boot cd carefully - it sounds like you didn't setup the boot image file in nero correctly. make sure you are using the newest release of nero so you have all the options listed in the instructions for creating the boot cd with nero.
