PC Developers On Microsoft's "Wrongheaded Strategy" for Windows 8 :-

Game developers are at best cautiously optimistic, and at worst are slamming Microsoft completely

Seems like MS are just p*** off about cheap indie games eating into their pie... :-k

Greetings!

Windows 8 may not let you boot to the desktop, demands you accept not-Metro
If you were hoping that you could force Windows 8 to bypass the don't-call-it-Metro homescreen and boot straight to the familiar desktop you've come to know and love, we've got bad news. Word on the street is, Microsoft has removed this ability from the latest builds of the OS -- so you're gonna have to stare at a pile of tiles when you boot up, whether you like it or not.

I don't get what all the Metro fuss is about. I don't particularly like it, but since I plan on continue using "normal" desktop applications, I imagine my workflow under Win8 would be something like this:

1 - boot the computer;
2 - login into windows;
3 - "winkey" to the desktop, open my apps (browser, editor, games, whatever);
4 - go on with my life, not using Metro (or whatever the current name is);

I am missing something..?

Sure, I'll try Win8 more thoroughly before buying it (if I ever do, that is, I might no upgrade, at least not right away), but I don't expect things to be much more complicated than that.
No sig due to budget cuts.

You are missing a non-fullscreen Start "Screen", the "most used" column in Start Menu, the ability to search all (not settings or apps or files), and, depending how much you multi-task, once you absolutely need a Metro app you either lose 20% of the screen or 80% or all of it.
You do get hot corners, though.

There will be demand for a program that kills Start Screen, restores Start Menu and removes Charms.
Do note that I played with a Lumia 800 the other day I really liked it. Metro works there.

So stick with win7 and stop b****, geebus. You'd think MS was trying to kill everyone with all the moaning going on every time they change anything.

It's not the end of the world if you don't upgrade.

As for me I'll have it day one, obviously.
