Will all of you nForcing Linux please stand up and be counted Smile With this poll, please select the distro which you use most often, and optionally leave a message stating which nForce board you have, and whether you are using a stock distro or a custom kernel.

This feedback will be forwarded to/monitored by nVidia. Please keep your posts to the point, as this will help statistics and make for easier reading. Any flames / offtopic posts will be removed without warning Evil or Very Mad

MSI K7N420Pro motherboard+SB128pci sound card as the Nforce sound became distorted after a year of use.

I don't have my board yet, it's not a matter of if just a matter of when. D3 isn't coming out for another month or two so why not wait to see if prices will drop a bit? Smile The credit card is warmed up and idling in the background.

My board will be a Shuttle AN50R with the Nforce3 chipset. I've used Shuttle boards for years with 0 problems. I've looked at all the boards (including the VIA ones) and come to the conclusion the Shuttle has the best price/layout/features for my needs. Raid 0 is a big plus, 2 more ports would have been better. I chose to support the Nforce3 chipset because Nvidia chooses to support me as a Linux user.

My vid will be a 5900 FX for the same reason.

I use Mandrake as my distro. I was considering Gentoo but after lurking on their IRC channel last night for a while I'm less inclined to do that. Maybe a bit unfair but I usually end up downloading and compiling my own stuff anyway and I like my install to be done in short order.

My kernel is always custom as are my settings. Tweaked for speed is the order of the day around here.

Note to Nvidia: I like total control over any software I install as well as a chance to examine the freshly compiled stuff before I install it. The single "make install" manual option would have been much better if you had included a "make" option as well IMHO. A single flag that combines --nonetwork --keep --no-rpms -a -n would be much appreciated.

Edit: BTW, if there were a standalone soundcard with the Nforce2 APU that was completely hardware driven I'd probably buy that too. I'll be disabling the realtek onboard sound in favor of a real soundcard.

Leadtek K7n415DA

Slackware 9.1 stock kernel(2.4.22), using the default alsa with my SoundStorm's spdif, sounds great. Not using the nforce lan, but a pci realtek.
The 2 newest display drivers are not working really good Evil or Very Mad , so I'm stucked with the latest 4xxx driver release, which is fine. /running gnome + gdm/

slackware with 2.4.22-mosix kernel (still working on geting the second computer to let me export tasks to it). And I have a 2.4.23 gaming kernel with that prempting patch, (thats where all my 3rd party drivers are)

its on a Biostar M7NCD-pro with a athlon XP 2200, it has 3rd party sound card (casue the onboard sound isnt linux freindly as far as i can tell) and a Nvidia Geforce4 MX440 cause the Nvidia driver instalation kicks the crap out of the RPM's you must to use for radeons (especially in a non RPM distro)
