I'd be interested in CUDA going AMD. The only bad thing I ever heard about it was that it was locked to NV.

They definitely seem to be more into pushing Tegra & Mobile tech these days, and fair play to them as this is where personal computing is going (whether anyone likes it or not!). They've already got hardware on the market, and are already taking the fight to the other ARM based SoC's.

Jen-Hsun Huang, love him or loathe him, but he doesn't dither about on what to do with the company...

I doubt it was the only reason, but yeah it surely must have made them look elsewhere, but still, they were quick to react. And with hindsight it's looking like the right decision for them (after a shaky start).

Let Intel have x86, I don't think anyone will care as much about it in say 5 years...

It's worked well for them, but they have weak competition when it comes to GPU design so it doesn't surprise me.

Same reason AMD is still competitive even after fouling up their high end procs o.o

As we mentioned back on Monday, NVIDIA was going to be making some kind of GeForce announcement this evening at the NVIDA Gaming Festival 2012 in Shanghai, China. NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has just finished his speech, announcing NVIDIA’s next ultra-premium video card, the GeForce GTX 690.

Well, folks, the mysterious "it" is finally here. Today at the GeForce LAN and Nvidia Gaming Festival event in Shanghai, China, Nvidia pulled the curtains back on what should be the fastest graphics card the world has seen to date. The GeForce GTX 690 will feature dual GK104 chips, just like those used in the GeForce GTX 680. Two of them together on a single card will team up to deliver roughly twice the theoretical peak performance of a single GTX 680.

Nvidia shares jump up 9% :-

Nvidia Corp's quarterly revenue and outlook were ahead of low Wall Street estimates on better-than-expected sales of its latest graphics chips, sending its shares up 9 percent.

The chipmaker reported strong demand for its newly launched chips for desktop computers and contract wins for its Tegra smartphone chips but said revenue and profit is still being limited by supply constraints and macro economic issues.

The revenue surprise came off very low expectations as Nvidia had warned in February of weak sales linked to capacity constraints and new competition in cellphone chips as a big customer became a competitor.
