MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR and SATA II Hitachi

OK, here's the deal. I have a MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR and just bought a Hitachi 500GB SATA2 hard drive but can't get Windows XP to recognize it at all. I currently have a 80GB PATA Maxtor and want to have the Hitachi as an additional storage drive. I'm using the latest BIOS (7. and I don't see any options concerning SATA whatsoever. I don't want RAID arrays, I want to use my SATA2 hard as a regular hard disk, as if it were another PATA drive. I used Hitachi's Feature Tool to change the SATA mode of the hard disk from SATA2 to SATA1. The tool recognizes the hard disk correctly. The FastBuild Utility (CTRL+F) also detects the hard disk normally. Windows however doesn't see it at all. Promise FastTrack 376 drivers are installed (latest from MSI's website). I also tried to define a stripe array with just this drive in it but to no avail - Windows doesn't see the new drive. Am I missing something? Is what I'm trying to accomplish actually possible? Can I run a SATA2 hard disk on this board at all? Is it too big (500GB)?
I knew I should've just bought a regular PATA drive. Actually I thought of returning the drive and get a PATA one.
