Hi guys,

I've got a SN41G2 V2 and everytime I go into the bios to change any settings or even to look at the bios when I restart my PC power lights up the fans go a full speed and nothing, I have to then open it up remove battery and clear cmos. I've just updated to the latest bios hoping that would help but no joy.

I also get Floppy Disk(s) Fail (40)
CMOS checksum error- defaults loaded.
But I can't get into the bios to disable floppy, well I can get into it, but when I come to save the screen goes black but no reboot, so I switch off then I have to remove the battery again.

**Edit**

Update just fitted a floppy and booted don't get the floppy fail now but I still get the checksum error
Thanks for looking

put in some pc2100 ram.

clear cmos.

reflash the bios from a boot cd or floppy (xpcbios.com)

clear cmos again.

configure the bios and see if it works. only change on thing at a time though.

Hi, Thanks for your reply but I don't have any pc2100 ram. At the moment I've got one stick of Corsair 3200XLPT 512mb.

And my PC boots from floppy then HD then CDRom. I can go into the bios to change it but it won't save, everytime I go into my bios if I save changes the PC just locks up it's running but no screen, I should also say it doesn't boot, it just hangs. Since updating my bios my problems have got worse before I only had to clear cmos when I went into my bios to make changes but now even when i restart it sometimes I have to clear cmos. I can go into my bios not make any changes and my PC restarts ok.

**Edit I think my SN41G2 is V1 the motherboard is V2
When I first updated my bios the other day I did back my old bios up, but when I try to flash my bios with my old bios it says it's not compatible**

I don't mind the checksum error too much, it's just when it booted before the fans use to start up full speed then slow down, but now they are stuck on full..Sad

well, try the reflash without the pc2100 ram. your motherboard version should be listed next to the agp slot as well.

Try changing the memory setting, so that the memory runs in SYNC with the cpu, rather than the default "BY SPD".

Thanks guys but I managed to suss it.

Went into the bios and loaded defaults, can't believe I didn't try that before, tried it once I got closer but still didn't work. Tried it again and voila... Very Happy

I think one of the problems was winbios flash program was flashing my bios for the wrong version for my shuttle. the dos flash one was flashing the right one...

The only problem now is, on POST it's showing a AMD +1300 and mine is AMD +3000 tried changing settings in bios but it still shows the same...any clues??

Sounds like your FSB is running at a very low frequency.

What does it show in the BIOS for FSB Frequency, Memory Frequency and Resulting Frequency?

FSB Frequency 200Mhz
Memory Frequency Auto
Resulting Frequency Auto

Just changed it too
FSB Frequency 166Mhz
Memory Frequency 166Mhz
And I got
Resulting Frequency 278Mhz

But still showing AMD +1300 in post

**Edit***

Tried a load of different settings, no matter what I put in my bios post still shows AMD +1300

If you are using WinFlash you *must* do an Update BIOS All from the menu options to get it to flash right.

It's sounding like the flash didn't go right.

Try it again, after the flash clear CMOS via jumper, then see what it says.

Something is IMO terribly wrong here. I am not running the latest BIOS, but as far as I know, the Memory Frequency should not be "Auto" nor a specific frequency like 166 MHz. It should be either "Sync" (meaning equal to the FSB), or some percentage like 80%, 90% or 100%, 120%. And from that the BIOS should display the Resulting Frequency, e.g. FSB = 166 MHz x 110% = 183 MHz.

I say you have a bad BIOS flash here.
