|
|
|
I just did a fresh install of XP Pro, my RAID0 Array shows under "My Computer" and cannot be accessed until formatted. The problem is, I get an error message when I try to format (Windows was unable to complete the format) for some reason.
The array is detected when booting up (something like: Nvidia RAID IDE ROM BIOS 4.84... Healthy RAID Array detected).
I am using the newest nforce drivers (15.17) and according to the Media Shield pdf there should be an option for Storage devices in the Nvidia Control Panel but there isnt, just the Video Card Option. |

nForce4 RAID systems are not supported by the nForce IDE drivers v10.3.0.21, which are part of NVIDIA's official chipset driver sets 15.17/15.18.
At first step you should check, if any of your nForce IDE drivers have been updated at all. Open the Device Manager, choose the "View" > "Show hidden devices" and check the following devices:
NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller
NVIDIA RAID Controller
NVIDIA RAID Device
You will find them within the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" and "SCSI and RAID Controllers" section.
If you should realize, that you now got different nForce IDE driver versions working within your system (for example v10.3.0.21 for the S-ATA Controller, but v.6.66 for the RAID Controller and the RAID Devices), you should either try to synchronisize the driver versions or return to the "last good configuration" by F8 option.
After having checked, that you got the same nForce IDE driver version for all of your NVIDIA related IDE devices, you can run the installer of the nForce chipset driver package, which contains your currently running nForce IDE driver version. Check just the installation of the SataRaid drivers (="MediaShield" option). Then your MediaShield Control Center will reappear. |

Thanx for the reply! To say the least, it is very misleading of Nvidia to post the 15.17 as a working driver package if RAID for nForce4 is not supported, especially if the package specifically lists SATARAID drivers.
Device Manager shows only Nvidia nForce Serial ATA Controller (two of them) with driver versions 10.3.0.21, but for the rest it merely lists Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE Channel and Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller with Microsoft drivers.
I already tried what you suggested in regards to running the driver package and to check only the Media Center option. I guess the next step would be to just go back the 6.66 drivers?

Another option is to take the nForce IDE drivers v6.99 or, if you want the best possible, the AHCI capable nForce IDE drivers v9.99.09, which are part of my NF4-6 Performance Packs".
You will find these drivers and additional informations here:

fernando 1, my apologies for copying your original answer over at the nvidia forums, I had no ill intentions.
I will try your suggestion and let you know if it worked- although i suspect it will |

What you have done was not fair. I wanted to help you within this thread and some hours later you posted my text with your name at NVIDIA's Forum.
From a frequent poster as you are I expect, that he knows how to set a link or how to quote a text of someone else.
I'm really sad about this behaviour!
Don't expect any further help from my side. |

| I made an honest mistake with no bad will, and corrected it. If my sincere aplogy and fixing the mistake is not enough, then there is nothing more I can do. |

I tried out several different driver packages and the 6.66 drivers did the trick. Short of those, I found none that work in terms of supporting RAID.
