Just bought a new WD 500Gb SATA hard drive and used the Western Digital Lifeguard program to copy my system partitions over to it. When I unplug my old IDE drive and try to boot from the new SATA drive, I get an "Error loading OS" message on bootup. I've checked my bios and the new hard drive shows up as Primary SATA Master, and under boot priority I have Hard Drive at the top. Am I doing something wrong, or do I just have a mobo that can only boot from IDE drives?
----
Thought I should clarify my situation a bit. My system had a 250gb EIDE hd split into 3 partitions: WinXP installed in C, and data on D and E. I used the WD Lifeguard program to clone all 3 partitions onto my new SATA drive. Then I tried unpluggin the EIDE and boot just from the SATA hd. I have the SATA drive plugged into SATA Port 1 and bios is detecting it as SATA Master 1. I have Silicon SATA disabled and NVRaid disabled. If I boot from the EIDE drive I can see all 3 partitions on the new drive, but if I unplug the EIDE and try to boot from SATA I get the OS loading error message. I then tried booting from a WinXP + SP2 slipstreamed CD to do a repair install on C. It seemed to copy over all the files okay but after a reboot it I end up with the same message. Really hoping someone can help me here! Thanks.

i had a similar problem with my ASUS Board and a Western Digital 250GB SATA, i then put in a Hitachi 250GB and it worked fine. The WD 250 works fine with my partners MSI Board.

Dude i am running the a8nsli premium, and believe you me, this board has no problems running any type of HDD, including one's that i am running (an IDE drive using a SATA adaptor plugged to the NV SATA ports)

consider upgrading to the latest 1302 (beta i know, but what they hey...)
i used Acronis home to clone partitions from my older drive to the newer one, (a 320 16mb Seagate to the wd 500AAKS.....the 320GB had a VISTA install, and i not only changed the partion sizes for the other partitions, apart from the VISTA which is locked at 40GB, the new WD had no issues running anything.......so i'd say give acronis a chance if you can, and any version of acronis home should do)
and the way i "cloned" it, was using the proggie, in winxp., and vista booted off the new wd500 as if it was always there Smile
