Have you got a recent bios with HPET timers in the power management tab?

If so disable it, it's only supported under Vista.

I'm having a similar occasional issue with Vista Ultimate x64 too.

Changed my HPET to 64 bit and it seems OK so far.

Obviously YMMV. Wink

Very Happy That's solved it.

HPET can be either 32 or 64 bit depending on which flavour of vista your running.

Tried it with Xp too and with HPET disabled it's also fine.
