Ok been trying for a week or two now to get SP1 to install but I keep getting the same old 80071732 error that loads of other folks are getting.

Wont install thru MS Updates, wont install with the standalone update.

I've tried all the MS recommended fixes and patches, registry hacks, CheckSUR, deleting the updates folder contents, system scan and repair etc. etc. just like lots of other folks and nothing.

MS have been very quiet on this one.

Anyone else having problems?

Weird, I've heard that other folks have had problems, but I installed it fine on five different machines here at home..?

Does take a while to install though.

Yeah very strange.

With using MS Update it fails at 12%. This has been pointed out by lots of other folks, all at 12%.

Using the stand alone installer the progress bar get two thirds of the way across and then errors out.

Greetings!

Crazy problem.

Hopefully, MS has solved the problem by the time PT-PT version is released.

Don't know if it'll do anything for you, but MS has released a pre-'service stack update' update for those whose systems refuse to install the SSU. It's on winupdate now apparently.

I know it's not the same problem, but it could be related for all I know.

Thanks for the glimmer of hope but it doesnt do anything. Crying or Very sad

Just going round in circles here.

Might just go back to XP Pro for all the 'benefits' Vista is giving me.

Thats always worked for me.

Looks like support calls to MS are available free on any SP1 install issues until 2009. Might as well if you can't get anywhere with the known solutions.

A new one just popped up on winupdate
Quote:
Update 938371 updates several internal components that Windows Vista requires in order to install or to remove Windows Vista Service Pack 1 more reliably. This update must be applied separately before you install Windows Vista SP1 to make sure that Windows Vista SP1 can be installed or removed from the computer. Update 938371 is necessary to install and to remove Windows Vista SP1 on all versions of Windows Vista. This update will be available on the Windows Update Web site soon after the release of update 935509 and before the release of Vista SP1.

Guess it was released previously but just updated.
