This has to be there crazienst thing i've ever seen...
Trying to install Vista (RTM and legal). I'm aware of he nvraid issues and as goofy as it is i have the 5744 modded driver to gt around that...the problem i'm having is that Vista doesnt see the enhanced USB devices (USB2.0). It sees everythign fine if i set the bios to use USB 1.1 and not the 1.1+2.0 combo.
the minute USB2.0 is involved i get all sorts of flakey behavior. including (after an successful install) any USB 2.0 device that is pluggged in will be reported as an unknown device and willnot function.

I dont even know wher eto start to look for this...I know the devices work, i knwo hte enhanced controller works they jsut dont seem to work under vista...is there a setting i'm missing in BIOS that will magically make every thing happy?

I'd love to be able to enable Readyboost...when i try that i get a messaga bout an unsupported platform!

But the issue is really more fundemental...the Vista install process (both x64 and x32) doenst understand what my HS USB devices are. That appears to be because the mobo reports them all as FS USB 1.1 devices.

This is saying you're installing Vista using a USB device?

All my USB devices work fine with xp....(they even apper to be HS)

No, i'm not installing vista FROM or TO a USB device... 1) during the install USB devices arent recognized (and they are supposed to be) 2) after and install USB devices are ONLY recognized & Usable if i disable the enhanced USB hub device in device manager.

I am having the same problems with my Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI; Mass storage devices (MSD) do not work with on-board USB ports in Vista- they are all 'unrecognized devices'. These include thumb drives, USB HDs, digital cameras (in MSD mode) and memory card readers. However, webcams, printers, mice, keyboards and gamepads work fine.

I do not have this problem with the two PCI USB cards I have added into the system- they can handle all devices (it is just a little hard to get around the back of the PC to install a thunb drive!).

The devices work fine in XP- I verified this by formatting Vista, re-installing XP and they work perfectly. I bought a new SATA drive and put it in my drive swap cage and re-installed Vista Ultimate RTM- and the on-board USB problems are back.

I am guessing it is something to do with this specific motherboard or the nForce4 chipset...

I am having the same issues with Vista and USB memory sticks, thumbdrives, pocket-rocket, or whatever people call 'em....

I have a DFI LanParty SLI-DR nF4 mobo. Was running Windows XP x64 just fine and all USB devices were recognized, whether plugged into the mobo USB ports or via the integrated USB hub on my Dell 2001FP monitor.

Now with Vista x64 Ultimate, it's all gone to crap. The USB hub is recognized, but no memory sticks get recognized when I plug them in. Somehow, one Memorex stick gets recognized when plugged into 1 mobo port, but not recognized in the other.

Worse is that nobody, not Microsoft, not nVidia or anyone has drivers out yet to fix this mess.
