Could someone recommend a good video capturing software for use in copying old VHS tapes to my computer. I've got Nero 7 to burn the DVDs with, but don't have a clue on what a good video capturing software might be.

Could depend on your source, capture device and intended resolution if you are looking for top quality conversions.

Window's own Movie Maker will do a job and is pretty simple to use. Some more detailed advice here:

Indeed I found that after all the messing around Movie Maker was the easiest and gave the most consistant results. I tried MS Media Encoder but that gets tricky to setup if you want to do custom transfers.

Good enough to get you started.

I guy I work with does Laser Disc Transfers on to dual layer dvds. I'll ask him what software he uses.
