Hey guys

I need to know if my "3COM fast ethernet" adapter can be used for networking 2 PC's.

This is my situation, I plugged in my cable modem into my PC VIA USB, i got the internet all sweet, then i plugged in my onboard nVidia network into my Xbox 360 and got the internet all sweet signed onto live!

But when i plug my mums PC into the 3Com port it keeps saying limited or inactive connectivity, tried resetting up the network, renewing IP address, resseting cable modem via little reset switch in the back of it.

Now the 3com used to be the internet (cable modem to 3com port) but now i want the 3com port for a network, without getting a router.

Is it possible ?

Any comments will be appriciated!

Greetings!

Internet -> USB modem -> PC A -> PC B?

I had a similar setup working two years ago.

You make sure that PC A can connect to the internet.
Make a working network between PC A and PC B.
Click on the Internet connection of PC A and allow a share connection option.
On PC B network connection settings put IP of PC A as the gateway.

Guess that was all... Think

Hey.

The pc with the internet, is connected via usb now, the 3com port and nvidia adapter are my two onboard networks. via nvidia network is my X360 and it works fine, but the 3com port when connected to my mums pc, doesnt recognize the internet hence the message "inactivite or limited connection".

when i plug in the network cord from the 3com network card into the cable modem (internet) i get internet, its like the 3com port is only for internet activity and unable to be used as a network.

is this true ?

ie i cant even access my mums pc documents let alone have her connected to me in the 3 com port.

Only if she is plugged into my onboard nVidia nForce network is when i can connect to her and share the internet, not on the 3Com network.

The names of the 2 devices exact are:

3Com 3C920B-EMB Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller
NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

the answer to your question is yes the 3 com on board lan card ban be used to network to another pc. now if you want you can use the realtek card to access the internet then connect the other pc to the 3com.. make sure both onboard lan cards are enabled in the Bios, and drivers are installed, make sure you can access the internet.. if you can access the internet then bridge the connection between the 2 onboard cards via the networking wizard in win xp, after the 2 cards are bridged you should be able to connect to the internet with the other pc. i hope that answered your question

hey there

Realtek card? I have 3Com Ethernet Card, and a nVidia onboard network card,

If i hook the internet up to nVidia lan, and my other PC to the 3Com, it recognizes the connection on the 3Com but it has limited or no connectivitiy, so i cant share the internet to it.

ATM 3Com has only been able to do the internet, it has not been able to connect PC's proply, Only the nVidia LAN has been able to connect PC's together.
