Hey Gang,

Well I finally upgraded but this time I fell to the power of the dark side!!! This is my first Intel rig and I kinda like it.

THE SPECS:
MB: ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA SE
CPU: INTEL C2D E6850 G0

HD-2: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3300622AS 300GB
HD-3: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3750640AS 750GB
DVD: PLEXTOR PX-716AL Dual Layer
SOUND CARD: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
PSU: PC Power and Cooling ULTRA-QUIET, SILENCER 750
CASE: SilverStone Black Temjin SST-TJ03 Aluminum Case
FAN CONTROL: Sunbeam 4 Channel Rheobus
COOLING:
CPU BLOCK: FuZion Extreme Performance CPU Block
GPU BLOCK: DangerDen DD-29XT Water Block
RAD: ThermoChill PA120.2 2x120mm High Performance Radiator
FAN: Delta EFB1212SHE 120x38mm Triple Blade High Speed Fans at 141.96 CFM x2

COOLANT: Fluid XP+ Ultra Non-Conductive
MOSFET: Thermalright HR-09U Type 2 Mosfet Cooler x2
NB: Thermalright HR-05 Fanless Chipset Cooler w/ Evercool 70x15mm Aluminum Fans
SB: Thermalright HR-05 Fanless Chipset Cooler w/ Evercool 70x15mm Aluminum Fans

I was able (for now) to get my E6850 G0 to 3.8Ghz Prime double pass (both cores) and OCCT give or take 10hrs stable.

At 3.8Ghz, temps and voltages...

CPU: 1.42v/1.45v bios: Idle-36c / Load-57c

NB: 1.38v/1.35v bios: Idle-35c / Load-39c

SB: 1.07v/1.05v bios: Idle-32c / Load-34c

Load temps were with Prime running.

I'll post some pics later after I give it a good wire management and cleaning job.

Sweet scooby!! You got the E6850!! Thats the same chip I'm looking at! Have you pushed it as far as she will go, or does she have more in her? I'm wondering if 3.8 would be realistic with air cooling. Confused

How do you like the maximus? I'm looking at either the maximus, or the striker extreme. It would be my first intel system ever too, so any positive input you have would help me make the decision. I really don't want to drop AMD, but the intels seem awesome.

Thanks guys,

3.8Ghz is only what I've OCed so far but I have a strange feeling this CPU will go to 4Ghz with a little more voltage.

RYknow, what can I say... I was debating about this for a while and while doing the reseach I jumped in and got the Maximus Formula SE. I don't know why alot of other guys are having problems with their board but let me tell you, this board was very easy to work with and believe it or not I haven't had problems yey...knock on wood.

I was going to go with a Q6600 but the place I was ordering from only had the B3 stepping and I wanted the G0. So I got the E6850 that was guarenteed G0 stepping, I figured I was 3Ghz would be a good start and I could live with the price till the new quads come out.

As you can see in the pics below I coundn't resist popping the stock heatpipes and sinks and replacing them with some Thermalrights.

And here is the shot of the rig...excuse the mess I'm still doing some wire management and cleaning. The detailed cooling specs are all the the first post. How you like the black tubing.

If you get the Maximus most of the hardcore guys are using the Thermalright Ultra-120 EXTREME and I have seen some reach 3.8Ghz. If I wasn't doing water I would have that heatsink on it for sure. Oh I'm also using Coollaboratory Liquid Pro thermal paste on the CPU and...cooooool!!!!

I love this board so far and if you ask me go with the Maximus, I think right now you won't find the Special Edition version but the non-SE version is the same board the only differents is the SE has the NB watercooling block other than that its the same board...oh yeah, the SE is v1.02 and the non-SE is v1.03.

Shocked

LOL! Its not that bad. Since I have a bigger case it allows me to hide more wires but atleast it looks like you have great airflow and that is what really counts...right.
