Just got Hardy Heron up and running :-
Works really nice for me, and requires less setup fiddling than Gutsy did. I like the newer theme/menus also, and it seems pretty well polished so far in this version (Alpha 6).
Roll on April...

What's even more pleasing is that AMD/ATI's driver support is really nice now, just click 'System/Administration/Hardware Drivers' and tick to enable the 'ATI accelerated graphics driver' and bingo, it'll automatically install the latest Catalyst 8.3...
No Xv/X11 or any GL issues at all for me with this driver... |

| Yeah I'm planning to install the KDE4 version here and be done messing with this machine for another month or so. Heh, for a box meant to be a web browser and nothing else it's sure been a pain in the ass to get it where I want it. |

*sigh*...
Still won't work with my server, and SATA drives that I have. As soon as I disconnect my SATA drive, I'm able to get 7.04, 7.10, and 8.04 all to load up. But with my SATA HD's I can't get any of the above to work.
I've also tried them with my gamer. Also with no luck. Something about the SATA drives, and or chipset.

Guess I got the default ver instead of the KDE ver. It's so hard for me to care which version.
I think I'll use it for the sole purpose of getting things back up and running when I inevitably screw something up, like last night. |

Just installed Hardy on my Eee PC, runs really well even with compiz effects and is not hard on the memory :-
Obviously Firefox looks a bit diddy on the 800x480 screen :-
But that's mainly solved with F11, and it browses nicely also.
All in all Ubuntu 8.04 works out of the box on the Eee PC, with only a few little tweaks needed (wifi, startup/shutdown & audio).

I"ve got it up an running on my server! I really like it. It's very smooth, and quick.
The only thing giving me a problem, is SATA HD's still. My server has a IDE 160gb HD as a primary, 160gb HD as a backup (all my programs and pictures), and a IDE 400gb HD (all my music and a bunch of movies).
I have two 500gb SATA HD's. During installation, it wouldn't even load as a live CD with these two drives plugged in, so I disconnected them. It booted and ran fine as a live CD without them plugged in. So I installed Hardy, thinking I should be able to figure something out when it's installed. When, I shut down, plugged them in, and fired it back up, it gets to the Ubuntu loading screen, and just hangs there. It will not load up to the log in screen. As soon as I disconnect those drives, it works flawlessly.
System Specs:
Mobo: Asus A8N SLI Premium
CPU: Athlon 64 3700+ @ 2.71
RAM: 2 gigs Corsair DDR 400
GPU: Dual 7800GT's
HD's (as listed above):
2x WD 160gb (IDE)
1x Seagate 400gb (IDE)
2x WD 500gb (SATA)
I was reading a thread on the Ubuntu forum which was a poll on the best mobo for ubuntu, and the A8N Premium got great marks as being one of the best. No one seems to be having problem with this board but me. I'm thinking it has something to do with the number of drives I'm trying to use though?
Any suggestions? These SATA HD's have been an issue with 7.04, 7.10, and now 8.04. Could it be as simple as jumper settings on the HD's? It's been so long I forget what I have them set at, but I think it's CS mode.
