PostPosted: Sat Mar 03, 2007 7:14 pm    Post subject: Uber / Trats Bios 1013 for A7N8X-E Deluxe with 4.2.83 SATA

Hi, I'm hosting the lastest Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe 1013 BIOS with added v4.2.83 Sil3112 (SATA) BIOS. Very Happy

Über bios are based on Demoulous' "Uber Bios 1013 for A7N8X-E Deluxe SATA Enhanced" but adding the new SATA BIOS (v4.2.50 on lastest Demolous modded bios I could found at 17-02-07, v4.2.83 on my modded BIOS).

Trats bios are based on Trats 1T/2T bios adding the new SATA BIOS (v4.2.79 on lastest Trats I could found, v4.2.83 on my modded BIOS). Both CPC on (1T) and CPC off (2T) versions are included on the same package.

I’m offering this Bios to anybody on my situation that does not want (or fears) to mess with the Bios modules and CBRom. Both BIOS versions (v4.2.79 SATA and v4.2.83 SATA ones) have been tested on my computer. If you want, you can read more on my previous post http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/hosting-uber-bios-1013-for-a7n8x-e-deluxe-4279-sata-vt69254.html.

New on this version (over 4.2.79 SATA BIOS):

Problems resolved
1. Blank CD-R in CD or DVD-ROM causes startup failure.
2. Systems that incorrectly relay shared interrupts prevent startup.

Changes made
1. Set RAID1 rebuild rate to top priority of 100 at initialization.
2. Change copyright to 2007.

Yes, I tested both of them on my board. About performance I haven't noticed any improvement, seems to be the same. The only diference I found is that with lastests sata bios the board supports having two Seagate disks on sata, while one of the hard disks wouldn't work propertly before (so you where stuck with using just one sata hard disk, or not buying Seagate disks)...

Thank you very much!

I have searched many days for this.
I have an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe Rev. 2 with two WD Raptor SATA (not in RAID 0 or 1).
How should I flash it? With the ASUS utility under windows or DOS?
Should I backup all files on both HDDs or are the files save on the HDDs?
What is the difference between Trats and Uber version?
Thanks!

Last 4 times I used ASUS utility on Windows (XP) without problems. Just make sure that you close all the weird programs (antivirus, firewall, speedfan/mbm/cpuidle and such) and that you have a stable system.

Anyway remember that the 'DOS' flasher is already included on the bios, so if you copy a bios rom file to a formatted floppy disk and press the required key on the bios splash screen (F2? I don't remember now) the Award utility will pop up and let you load the rom from the floppy Smile I think that this utility is more stable than Windows one, but it requires a floppy drive.

By the way, I would tell anybody flashing their bios, to have the computer connected to an UPS with charged battery: Murphy's laws say that the chance of having a black-out is never higher than when you are updating firmware.

Having a backup is never a bad idea Wink

They have been 'modded' by different guys, but they are not so different: both have options that where hidden on official bios (mainly overclocking-related options and such) and some tweaks (i.e. you have a Trats bios with CPC off / T2 that may help with some memory modules failing at high frecuencies). But I think both have the same tweaks -aside from the CPC off on the special Trats bios version-.

ASUS Update v7.05.01 Smile

You can download it here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?model=Tools&SLanguage=en-us
Usage info here: http://support.asus.com/technicaldocuments/technicaldocuments_content.aspx?no=714&SLanguage=en-us

Of course it is! Bios update should be painless: you might need to reconfigure bios settings (they are cleared and set to defaults; but as you don't use raid you should still be able to access the raptors data out-of-the-box), and install lastest sata drivers (for Windows, just use Windows Update); but everything else 'should' work at least as fine as before (better in most cases, as these new bios are supposed to correct some bugs).
But there is always a chance for new versions to bring new bugs; that's why you should make a backup of the data (if it is important) so you can test the new version for a few days (until you are sure that it's stable) without worries.

The utility says

"Warning! The date of this BIOS image is newer than the current one. Please use the ASUS DOS help program for mire info."

so I have to try it via floppy disk i guess...
