This isnt PC related but im hoping some one can help me. I want to have a tv in the bedroom, but there isnt a socket in there. Ont really wanting to drill holes and run wires so want to know is there are any wireless options? Something that can be plugged into the aerial in one room enabling a signal to be seen and operated in another. Any advice would be great.
Thanks |

Slingbox!
Got one a year ago. Plug in the aerial lead, link it to your wireless router. Let the digi or analogue tuner tune in, do a little twiddling of the compression/picture quality to taste etc. and away you go. TV over your wireless network.
If you just want the TV then the standard Slingbox will work a treat. Not difficult to setup and the picture quality is fine.
I bought it so we could watch TV in the bedroom on our laptops rather then buying a LCD TV for the room.
You can even watch your TV abroad if you set it up to bradcast over the web. I never bothered with that.

Ok I got the original standard Slingbox (the one that Currys/Dixons was selling) as per -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sling-Media-Slingbox-Digital-Anywhere/dp/B000N3PN7O/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1203120007&sr=8-1
You can find then online and in the shops still. I dont know much about the later ones other than I think they handle some HD sources and are less TV orientated, more media extender.
The way mine works is I have the Sling plugged into the TV aerial and then it has a pass through into the TV. I then plugged the Sling into my 8 port switch that is connected to my wireless router. using an ethernet cable. So you only need the Sling to be within reach of the TV and an ethernet cable away from your Router. You install the sling software on your PC/laptop and then link to the Sling from there. You can configure it from the wizard or do it manually.
I am a total noob when it comes to network stuff and I managed to get it to work ok, so.........

Really wanted to pick it up on a second tv, not a laptop, but suppose could put togehter a small media pc from bits lying around. Would it need a TV card? Although it is beginning to sound like im better off getting some one in to install a second tv point

All the Slingbox does is convert the TV signal into a datastream that can then be pumped out over the LAN be it ethernet or wireless.
For pushing the TV signal to another TV then another option might be the way to go. Maplins often sell wireless TV repeater devices. I have no experience of those though.
We just went this route as we had laptops aplenty with good LCD screens so didnt want to bother buying an overpriced 20" LCD for the bedroom (which we didnt really have room for anyway).
