Fedora 9 is out :-

I tested the 9 preview on my PS3 the other day and it was pretty damn solid and robust, obviously a bit heavier than Ubuntu though.

I was about to install it, but it seems ATI drivers are still incompatible with 2.6.25 kernels...

I'll stick with F8 (at least for now), the only thing I'd really like to have is the new Gnome 2.22 (and associated features (gVFS, namely)), Upstart seems nice too, much of the rest is already available in updates.

Pretty much the same thing with Ubuntu 7.10 vs 8.04, I guess.

Yeah pretty much, take away Gnome 2.22 and 2.6.24 away from Ubuntu 8.04 and it's basically 7.10.

Only problem I have with Fedora is that it should have a more desktop orientated spin, it just feels too corporate for me how it is, but then again many like it like that.

I just feel that for a 'Linux distro for the masses' Ubuntu still has by far the best overall package, and this should have been Fedora's chance to try and catch them up so to speak.

Yeah, but I guess it's a conscious design decision, Ubuntu is actively marketed as a desktop-oriented distro (a Windows-killer, some would say), while Fedora is meant as a "general purpose" distro.

Both are equally good, if you ask me (although I haven't suceeded yet at running Ubuntu without some annoying problems...). Ubuntu's default theme is ugly, though!

Even the new 8.5 drivers still don't work it seems, but I think they have problems anyway with the new xorg 1.5
