I know this is a new Shuttle and should be able to handle today's video cards, but I just wanted to post here to hear everyone's thoughts. Will this shuttle power a 6800 GT, or the new 7800 GTs (I know we don't know much about them yet)? Is 230W enough?

Also, I'm thinking of adding a Zalman VGA cooler to my 6600GT, will it still fit in a Shuttle case?

Thanks in advance!

the sn25p should have a 300w psu if i recall correctly.

i'm running a 6800gt in my sn95g5 w/ the shuttle 240w psu just fine. the shuttle psus are pretty good for handling the load of high end components in them.

Infact there is a 350 Watt Power Supply on SN25P. Wink

I have one running on my desk, with XFX 6600GT board installed. And I also happen to have Xalman VF700-Cu cooler on it. It fits, but it's a tight fit. There's about 1mm distance form propeller blade to DVD-drive rack! Also Zalmas's fins must be bent to make it fit. It's not hard to install, just have to make sure that wires aren't going to the propeller blades.

Arctic Cooling NV VGA Silencer 6 Rev.2.0 did not fit at all, propeller housing is way too big for Shuttle. Maybe if you would toss the DVD-rack...

The Shuttle people are fond of claiming their PSUs are capable of any graphics card, but I've tested them and found them lacking. Search Sudhian.com SFF forums for people who cannot power Radeon 9800 AIW without a special circuit, becuase the PSU cannot handle the initial power draw. Personally, my SN41G2, the 200W PSU could not power a FX 5800 Ultra in 3D modes above 800x600. The machine would blue screen if a game or benchmark tried to enter 3D in 1024x768 or higher.

I tested external PSUs of 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, and 510 Watts. At 250W the machine could enter 3D modes at any resolution I could test. Furhermore, each 50W increment in PSU would increase benchmarks (3DM01se) by 11-16%, topping off with a smaller 6% increase from 450W to 510W.

Sure, you can fit a GeForce 6800 in a Shuttle. With Shuttle's 350W PSU you probably won't even notice it's being held back. But unless you give it a bigger PSU, performance won't be GPU or CPU bound, it'll be PSU bound.

YMMV.

heh

Well i have a sn25p with a 7800 GTX installed and i get 9800 ish in 3dmark 2005. I use a tft so play all res @1280x1024 and i have never had a single prob.

I used to have a sn41g2 as well and in that i had 9800pro and that was also percfectly fine.

And before my current i had a sn95g5 ? and a 6800 GT in that. Havent had a single problem with power, overheating yes, power no. PSU isnt about maximum power output but sustainted max load, which is where shuttle psu's do well. Pretty much what you get in rackmount servers.

Do you think a 7800GTX 512mb would fit inside the SN25P? Looking at internal pictures of it, it looks like the cooling case (it's a double slot card) might have a problem fitting into gap near the CPU shroud?
