Hello,

I, like Quentin, have an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum board that won't boot. First off, I got the board from ebay, and it had a corrupt bios, that I was able to reflash (to v1.0B I think it was). Windows installed just fine and was up and running. I then bought a different case, and trasnfered my stuff over into it. On bootup, I heard a buzzing/static out of the internal speaker. Then, nothing after the IDE detection. Froze up. When I rebooted, there was no video or beeping of any kind. I got an RMA from MSI on this board, and they sent me another one. I hooked it up bare-bones on my workbench, and all I ever saw was the splash logo. Locked up, and nothing at reboot again. No beeps or video.

I'm trying to figure out if it has/had a BIOS that wasn't compatible with my AMD X2 4600+. Hopefully MSI will either send me yet another board, or a BIOS chip, unless someone thinks I'd be better off with a 3rd party BIOS? I even found and bought a standard AMD 64 3200+ in the hopes that it'd recognize and boot with this CPU. No luck. Evil or Very Mad

did the new case come with a psu?

what brand, model and specs of your psu?

generally a dual core will post even when the bios doesn't fully recognize the newer cpu.

No. The PSU is an Ultra 600w w/ 34A on the +12 side, and it works just fine, with the same CPU (4600+ DC) in another board.

I'd read that about dual cores, however, when I mentioned what's happening to MSI tech support, and that perhaps swapping the bios might work, they offered to send me a new one, without any argument. Something sounds suspicious.

If that doesnt work, I'll have no choice but to try and have them RMA the board again. Rolling Eyes

5 days after my RMA was issued, but no chip shipped to me, I PM MSI Tech support to say... "uuuuh... wtf?"

Miraculously, 15 minutes later, my RMA status changes to "sent to shipping" Rolling Eyes

Received a fresh BIOS chip from MSI. Guess what? It doesn't work any better than the one I thought was corrupt.

This MSI POS is about to find its way to the junk pile, and I'll cut my losses. What a PITA Confused

Yes.

I messaged MSI Tech support again, and they RMAed the 2nd board, no questions asked. This seems a bit suspicious to me, but I took a chance and sent it back one more time...

*waits*

a couple of months ago, i was sent a bios chip to hot flash. when i placed his chip in my board, it booted to my oc settings of 11x280. my guess is the core cell has something to do with the problem. his board would not post.
