Silentio,
ed209 has already tried many things, and so have I , disabling the NICs is a new one. Can you explain what this would be testing and why you suggest this?
Also, how can you say that this is a hardware problem and that an RMA may be in order?
I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think that IF this is an RMA'able issue then ASUS, ABit, MSI and any other MB manufacturers using the NForce2 chipset MCP-T, are going to have a flood of people RMA'ing.
Have you experienced this issue yourself? and have you RMA'ed with success? |
Sorry for the late reply.
The reason why I said disable NIC is because I came across a situation, actually 3 times during a fresh install of windows over the past 2 years, when the NIC driver didnt install properly. What happens is that sound starts to stutter, and the system becomes unstable. Can it cause other sound problems? Maybe, but certainly cant hurt to test. I also know in some cases one of the NICS will share an IRQ with one of the sound devices, while this isnt normally a problem I would investigate it.
I say it can be a hardware problem, because I talked to someone who worked for nvidia as a contractor, and he talked to an nvidia design engineer and basically what was said is that ASUS mobos use smaller capacitors than other mobos for the SS, and this causes electronic noise problems like what is described. If u moved that same hd over to an identical mobo you may actually find the problem isnt there..
EDIT: I just noticed that you got a MSI, so the above probably wont pertain to you.
I would RMA it if you can definitively say it isnt a software issue (usually by a full format). And yes, people have successfully rma'd mobos for soudn problems - I sure have. It's a leading reason why mobo makers dont want an integrated SS as it leads to increased RMAs.

I've got a possible solution that worked in my case, even thou i only had this problem once i installed SP2.
In the device manger disable NVIDIA Nforce MCP audio processing unit(in sound video etc.). I soleved the problem and up until now hasn't created a new one.
Please let me know if it works. |
That disables SS, and you'll be using the realtek software sound system. It really isnt a fix. I came across this myself about a year ago too. Sure it works but.. :/
You guys already tried muting the SPFDIF and other inputs you dont actually use? That fixes things for some people.
