Anyone have any tips on setting up a striped array?
I have recently purchased a Maxtor 100GB Serial HD. I also have a 100GB IDE HD. From what I understand I should be able to set-up a striped array with these somewhat identical drives. The IDE drive has a 133mb transfer rate as well as 8MB cache. Both drives 7200 RPM.
The question is do I format my serial drive before installing the IDE drive? Do I install windows before installing the IDE drive? Is there any special tips on this set-up? |

raid 0/performance you attach both, setup the array, then format and install the os.
raid 1/mirror can be done either before os or after.

| One other question. with a serial HD that has 150MB thouroughput and a IDE drive that has 133Mb tops. Does that mean I will only be getting the 133Mb top speed, because that's as high as the IDE drive will handle? |

why don't you go here and ask your questions. they'll be able to tell you what to expect and what stripe to use, etc. to get the best results out of your setup.
