ABIT NF7-S
Tried all nvidia IDE drivers (2.70 doesn't count)

Windows either freezes up when windows loading screen becomes opaque, or boots after a REALLY long time depending on the drivers.

I have Toshiba SD-M1212 and NEC ND-1100a each on their own IDE channel.

HDD is hooked up to SATA thru Serillel.

Yes, I was also coming back to find out any new developments on this.

I posted my full details in this thread last month. To summarize quickly, I have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe v2.0 with 1005 BIOS. Currently running the 2.03 driver package with IDE drivers removed, using standard MS drivers. This was the best I could do, but Nero still can't burn DVDs (blank media is rejected as not writeable) and I'll get a coaster every time if I try to write at 2x with recordnowmax. Also, if I rip a retail DVD with the drive it will end up being corrupted. No CDRW problems, just the dvd burner, but it really sucks that I can't fully use my own hardware.

I have seen some modified ide drivers for Win2k, but has anyone come up with a fully working IDE solution for WinXP yet? I'm seriously fed up with NVIDIA on this. I paid top dollar for this board and I can't believe i'm still sitting here with a partially working system.

You and me both!

Also using WinXP SP1 with the nForce drivers that came with the 7NJS. Currently I can burn *nothing* on either the CD R/W or the DVD RAM. It is really [insert expletive of your own choice here] me off.

To make matters worse whenever I try to upgrade or even remove the IDE drivers the system won't boot at all  I have tried nearly every variant of the nForce IDE driver to no avail.

I have - to date - tried a number of variations on the theme of replacing/upgrading the ASPI layer. Again this achieved nothing more than being a great waste of time.

The only consolation that I have is that it now seems that I am not the only one.

I know that does not help anyone, but it makes me feel better :S

Sorry.

MSI K7N420 Pro Mobo
AMD 1600+ XP CPU
256 2100 DDR RAM
Baracuda 30GB HD
Lite ON CDRW and DVD/CDROM Drives

W'XP with ALL Updates
Nividia 2.03 Unified Drivers UNCHANGED

Initially, when I first built this system, almost 2 years ago - EVERYTHING worked fine. BUT somewhere along the way - some Driver Update or something has WIPED out the use of my LiteOn DVD Drive - it has not worked in MONTHS, although the System SEES the Drive, and Device Manager tells you that it is "Working Properly" it cannot read ZILCH!! I have tried everything short of replacing the drive.

Wow. Full Inq' coverage now. Hopefully that will attract nVidia's attention, solving problems for not only us, but those who don't post here :)

The solution is on nvidia website for a couple of week

http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/nFor ... ctions.zip

I currently use gigabyte 7nnxp and had the same problem with cdrom can't read cd and bsod ... using 2.41 drivers

The real solution right now is to install 2.03 drivers and use standard ide drivers from microsoft. I used this for 3 week and my system is now 100 % stable.

You can install the ethernet driver seperatly. The cd that came with your motherboard should contain a seperate inf, just right click on the device in device manager and point to the appropriate file to install. you should install the latest service pack before installing the usb drivers or usb2 won't work.

1+2: Maxtor 6Y080P0 80 GB/8MB Cache, IBM IC35L060 60GB IBM, IBM IC35L040 40 GB IBM, Pioneer DVR-A06, Lite-On 40x Burner connected to a Chaintech 7NJS with newest Bios

3: Lite-On: WS05, Pioneer: 1.05, HDs: next time it bluescreens I'll tell you....soon :/

4: Installed 2.03, then 2.41, then 2.03 after they were retracted; been noticing these problems but used to think it was a faulty drive (two died in the last two months, not that it has to be related), now found out that I'm not alone.

5: Win2K, SP3 before and now SP4+Fixed, no change.

6: Only ever happens at times of high disk usage. First the system starts becoming sluggish, sometimes comes back but mostly just hangs for a second while you hear the disks spin down, then I get a bluescreen with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and that's that.
It's been getting annoying, recently bought a DVD Burner and I'm producing 40% coasters due to this. Funnily enough, although the CD-Burner has a higher data rate (6000K/sec as opposed to 5520 with the DVD-Rom), it never bluescreens on me.

Addition - tried switching off "IDE Prefetch" in the BIOS as some people suggested, didn't change anything though :/ Now I'm going to test the new driver pack - hope it helps.

I use 3.44 found above. They work like clockwork so far. I can burn to CD-RW, play bf1942 with CD check. Time for an official release I would say.

I'm just wondering about something. I see a lot of ppl posting that they were using the 2.41 nForce drivers, but if I'm correct, aren't the 2.41s for Win9X/ME (at least on NVIDIA's site anyways)? Could that be why you're having problems?
