I have the same problem.... 100% cpu load. I think its becuase it is in PIO mode not DMA mode. If you go to control panel-device manager-then ide/atapi devices, select the channel it is on and right click to get properties and it will specify what mode you are in.. I know for a fact that my primary IDE with my old hdd's did not work until I manually changed them to DMA, but I never thought of my secondary channel (slow cd burning). I will change mine to make sure it works:)

5. Windows 2000 SP3

6. Plextor W16/10/40A (master on secundary IDE with Pioneer DVD as slave) won't work properly if DMA is enabled. Symptoms: drive is reported by Nero and Alcohol as being capable of writing at 40 speed and reading at 354 speed and (worse) no multisession CD's can be created as after only one session the disk has 0 MB free space.

PIO mode works fine.

Strangely enough, other burn software (NTI, WinOnCD) recognises the drive with its normal characteristics even when using DMA. However, I prefer Nero and Alcohol.

Drive worked fine in my previous system. Tried everything from connecting burner as slave on the primary IDE, new firmware, latest burn software versions, etc.

Steps to reproduce: just switch to DMA and reboot.

Similar problem.

1. Asus A7N8X-Deluxe (revision 2) and PlexWriter 12/10/32A

2. Asus and Plextor

3. Motherboard - 1005 CD-R - 1.10

4. Asus 1.16 nForce drivers

5. Win XP Prof

6. When trying to write audio-cds with cd-text I would get a write command error. Can be avoided by either switching off cd-text or switching the plextor to PIO mode.

I just went to the I/Omagic site and downloaded the driver. It works now.
Im surprised they didnt include the drivers in the package.

By the way, my HD and CDRW are being read as scsi devices.

Got a new problem with the 2.41 drivers which is odd

When extracting a file from a svcd movie *.bin, i get a sector 450 error.... yet if i use daemon tools and do an image of the svcd movie i can watch the movie through daemon tools -> powerdvd fine.

yet if i use daemon tools and extract the movie from the virtual cd the movie is all corrupted.

Someone said that it sounds as if there is a problem with my aspi drivers, this didnt happen before i used 2.41!

odd :(

A simple way to find out what hardware firmware version for your cd roms anyway is nero info...usually will tell ya exact drive model, firmware, what type of media it reads/write etc.
