6 When burning at first there were no problems. Two CDs were copied successfully. Then drive would spin up to begin burn and suddenly DVD on same IDE channel would try to spin up too (with no disc in drive), CDRW would spin down and begin to spin up again. This would repeat indefinately. I have tried it wih nero 5.5.x and XP builtin app (crippled ecdc).

I thought DVD drive was on the way out, it had an issue reading a CD earlier. Removing DVD from channel and making CDRW master I could burn one CD succesfully and then the same problems cropped up. Next connected DVD back as slave, tried older nero ASPI dll with no change, then renamed nero ASPI dll and installed Adaptec ASPI layer and updated ASPI to 2.71. Again could burn one CD and then no more even after multiple reboots, but this time it would throw up a SCSI command failure error. Checked device manager and realised all my IDE drives were being shown as SCSI devices.

Went to nvidia IDE controler and rolled back the driver from xxxxx.307 or was it .703 to .0 then shutdown, moved HD off the nforce2 IDE controler and onto the GigaRAID controler, restrted and now CDRW and DVD are detected as IDE drives and two IDE channels are shown in device manager. Burning CDs now works with nero again. The strange thing is, I assumed that if the drives were being detected as SCSI drives then an ASPI layer was not required because it was built in to the SCSI drivers but nero would not work without it.

Oh well.
