I know this is a bit late, but I also recently had POST and BSOD problems with this board. I got it from newegg and was within the 30-day replacement period, and the new board should be here by Wednesday. Here's my story...
System Specs: 4200X2, 4x512 Patriot XBLK RAM (2-2-2-5), 8800GTX, Audigy sound card
For three weeks, the board was flawless. Last Tuesday, I finished using the system and went downstairs to watch TV, when I came back up to go to bed, I noticed it had BSOD'd. No apps were running. The error it gave on the BSOD indicated a memory problem.
I tried memtest on various combinations of RAM, and even used two sets of known working memory (Crucial and Giel) - all failed on the Epox board, but worked fine in an MSI-equipped system. By "fail", I mean either outright failed or froze the system.
One thing I noticed during all of this is that the EPoX bios "auto" setting is NOT very automatic. Switching RAM from one set to another failed to recognize the settings in the memory. For instance, the I tried Giel RAM first (2.5-3-3-6), and the BIOS retained ALL of the "auto" settings it had for the Patriot RAM. This is wholly impossible. I had to modify all of the settings manually (including VDIMM) in order for the system to POST.
Eventually, the system wouldn't POST at all. It stopped after it displayed the CPU type and the memory settings. I didn't look to see what the POST code was, but I'm sure it wasn't the desired "FF".
My wife has this board in her system and it appears to be fine. Hopefully, the new board will behave better. |
