Well, I installed Ubuntu this past monday.. Its the first time I have ever installed any Linux distribution (before this I have only played with live CD's) and I am hooked. The install went really smooth, and I'm having very little trouble figuring out command line stuff (thanks to google). Now I only need Windows for gaming and a few apps for work that I can't get running in WINE. And it's all thanks to Microsoft! Vista really [peed] me off for the last time.
I do have a question though for all you Ubuntu gurus.. should I install the latest nvidia drivers for 8800gt? I'm just using the restricted ones the OS downloaded right after the install and then I installed the nvidia settings. Everything seems to be working fine and I even played a little Enemy Territory Quake Wars Demo and it runs decent. I went to install the newest drivers and it said I had to stop X-server... which I'm assuming is the GUI so I basically stopped right there and figured I would ask after not having much luck with google.
edit figured it out

There's a nice little app called EnvyNG that installs the latest ATI or Nvidia driver for you, and updates the driver when a new version comes out.
Here's the link:

Have fun.
