I'm hoping someone here could possibly give me a couple suggestions. I haven't been able to get any help over at the Ubuntu forums. I recently installed Ubuntu on my old Barton 2500+ machine. The install went off without a hitch, and Ubuntu runs great on that machine. I decided I wanted to try and run Ubuntu on my server (listed in sig). I have not been able to get ubuntu installed for the life of me.
I get a disc read error with either the 32 bit version, or the 64 bit version. For the 32 bit version I'm using the same disc that I installed Ubuntu with on my barton rig, so I know the disc is good. I get the same error even when I try to just check the disc for errors (on both versions).
I've tried everything I can think of to get this to work. I've tried SATA HD's, IDE HD's. I've tried serial keyboards and mice...I've tried USB keyboards and mice. I've tried three different CD-roms...and a different DVD-rom. I even brought my OC back down to stock...still no luck. I also downloaded each version twice....and re-burned them twice. I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions?

Hmm I did get the same freaking error for Ubuntu server installation... Ultimatelu what DID work was that I downloaded the "mini" installation image, or network installation and installed it with that "over" internet.
So... Download appropiate (feisty?) mini-image from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD, boot from it, and type "server" into the boot prompt, I remember it suggest that option too somewhere in the screen.
Then just follow the instructions there |

Sweet, I'll give it a shot since I still haven't had any luck. I swapped more CD-roms around, couple more HD's. I pulled one of my video cards, and tried different RAM.
It was suggested that I try the "alternate" cd. That also didn't work. Same error. =[ I'll give this a shot, and if it doesn't work, I guess it's just not ment to be.

Nope, this error was/is the CD/image itself, it did do same error on every computer I tried with feisty server installation, while desktop CD worked flawlessly.
Don't know about hardy full server CD as I love the "internet-installation" so much I use that allways nowadays if possible... And at home with my 24mbit/s connection it actually installs faster than from CD |
