The "free" PC DLC is available link. It requires a separate key from the game, that can only be obtained by registering on bioware.com.

There is also a 1.01a patch that fixes a Windows Explorer crash introduced in the 1.01 patch. link

The new mission was pretty cool. It only takes about 60-90 minutes to complete, but as a free add on, it was pretty cool.

The amount of key validations they are doing seems a bit excessive through. Especially considering how easily people seem to find work arounds. You have to register your key on their site to get your add on key. Then when you install the add on, you have to connect to the internet so it can once again validate your add on key.

It's pretty silly really.

EA won't answer any of these questions. There are people on that forum that swapped Video Cards, CPU's, etc and not triggered another activation. Then there are people saying a new monitor triggers it.

I gave this a try just to test it. I have Mass Effect installed and activated it, but after it installed, I blocked it with Webroot Firewall. Mass Effect has been activated, but can't connect to the internet so it can't use more of my activations. I swapped out my monitor, and Mass Effect booted up just fine. All EA has said is that individual experience will vary.

I just added a virtual drive as well (installed Alcohol 120) and that didn't seem to bother it either.

Changed drivers? Or was as a generic monitor?

I installed drivers for my Dell 24". My Viewsonic 19" was recognized by Vista so I just left it. I didn't try updating the driver.

All that trouble, and the copy protection doesn't even work.

EA is so retarded.

Recently finished my first playthrough and wasn't overly impressed.

My biggest beef is that there's a lot of repitition on the side missions. In many cases, the room layout is exactly the same, only with a different arrangement of crates. Wasn't too keen on the Mako and character "moments" either.

In short, I don't see the DRM being a factor as it's unlikely to be installed on another machine. Fortunately I'll be able to recoup some of the cost as a friend wants to buy it off me.
