Need help with bios setup - desparate.

Hi all
I hope that I am placing this post in the correct place.
I desparately need some help with my bios setup.
I have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe. Just updated the bios to rev 1008 (A7N8X Deluxe BIOS 1008 for PCB revision 2.0 and later only
Support AMD Sempron CPU)
The problem is when I boot up the PC, it seems to hang/freeze for quite some time at the ASUS splash screen. Sometimes it is quick and loads the OS, other times it just sits there, tried hitting alt/F2, Tab but no luck.
I have installed a fresh copy of XP Pro, installled all the drivers and nothing else on the system. Also replaced the battery on the board as it was bad. I currently have the following:
512MB XMS3200 DDR 400MHz
2500 AMD 1.8GHz
Graphics is GeForce FX5900
The board says A7N8X rev2

I am not sure what the bios settings should be, this is not my PC, trying to fix it for a friend and do not have any manuals for it.
Please help with setting up the bios, just want to get this darn thing working well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have spent some time reading different posts but can't seem to find what I need.
