<<Ghost, could you clarify this a little bit? Did you re-enable the ATI Smart service in the Services snap-in or did you run an executable? Did you also re-enable the Hotkey Poller service (if indeed you re-enabled the ATI Smart service)? >>

The path for this in WinXP home is
Start > Settings >Control Panel > Proformance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Services

The two files your looking for are "Ati HotKey Poller" and "Ati Smart"

after you disable both of them and reboot, you set the Ati Smart first. Set the "Startup type" to Automatic and then click on the Start button under "Service Status:" ( on the General Tab ) Yourr screen will go blank for a few seconds then come back. Close the Ati Smart dialogue box and open the Ati HotKey Poller file and repeat the same steps.

hope this helps :)

You are correct! The path to SERVICES and how to start and stop them. They need to run once. Turn them OFF (disable) them before reboot. Then ReBoot. After you have fully booted than go to services as you mentioned and set to manuel and then START it. Let it run once. After it has successfully dont this one time you can DISABLE it again and leave it there. YOu can also run the HotKey Poller to, but I normally kep this off as well, Disavble.

After running them both once go to Display properties and set the control panel as you please and reboot. All done!

Thanks guys, I know how to find the Services snap-in I just couldn't tell from the first post if you restarted the ATI SMART or just ran a file.

Thanks for clarifying this, the info could be quite useful in a few days. :)

Hey Chicken Choker,

I hadnt had this issue, as it always knows were it is for me. Might want to try a reinstall of that driver.

Like I said, AFTER it reboots and is fully booted, THAN run that program from with in the services area. It only needs to be run once, than it all good.

Wish I had an answer for you.

Thanks but I did reinstall the 3.2 drivers and still it does not do the final test even on it's own. I don't know what I did wrong but it looks like I'll be spending the weekend re-doing my whole computer. I never had this problem with Nvidia drivers. It is possible to remove a Service? Maybe if I remove it, it will reinstall when I run the driver install.
Oh well

well I doubt its the drivers fault, as your the first that I have heard on this issue.

There will be a release of 3.38 NF driver pac soon. Hoping for tomorrow. So this would be a great week end to do a reformat and reinstall.

But might want to hold out for a little longer, as the Catalyst 3.3 is ready to roll too. So a fresh format with With SP1/SP2's, DX9.0a, NF3.38 and than Catalyst 3.3's would be awesome to have.

Who knows maybe your mobo will also get a new bios ready for install. Start collecting all needed updates for everything and make a game plan for success

Thanks Ghost for your help but I managed to get things working again. I was right the reason for the failed install was because ATI Smart was not running after reboot because the path was lost in the service. I found out the program is ATI2SGAG.EXE. I found where the path was missing after installing the Cat 3.2 but not rebooting and entered the path in the registry and rebooted.

Success!!!!
Now we're waiting for the Cat 3.4s 3.3 have been cancelled.
