not to mention if it would even fit! 8-O

if cooling a processor with water makes you a little bit squeemish
how about cooling 1200WATTS of pure power with water 8-O

Didn't they teach those guys not to play with electricity

Having a 1200w PSU is getting close to Vacuum Cleaner level...

Trouble is, you wouldn't really want to leave a 1200w Vacuum Cleaner on for any longer than an hour either...

Heh. Silentpcreview and Techreport have been my backup for whenever anyone claims they need a huge capacity PSU.

Greetings!

"Even the peak loads were only a half of what my PCP&C 750 Quad can provide. That made me think "Does it mean I wasted $200 in real money buying a power supply that large?"
Well, I didn't really feel so - PCP&C 750 Quad is a good, solid piece of machinery that I was hoping would serve me well and long into the future. But nagging doubts remained.
...
I looked at what's available on the market and was surprised (second time, count with me!) that there are actually several 380-400W PSUs that can easily power my rig. They are relatively new, have a heavy emphasis on 12v rail and most of them in actuality are single rail even though the labels say otherwise. Most of them have decent efficiency ratings close to or exceeding 80%.
I chose the Antec ea380 from EarthWatts series."

Greetings!

PC Power Consumption: How Many Watts Do We Need?

This investigation will not only discuss the new equipment we are going to use from now on for quick, easy and detailed power consumption analysis of complete computer systems and individual components. We are also going to talk about a few typical system configurations and try to determine what power supply will be sufficient for them.

I recently downgraded my 90W PicoPSU to a 60W PicoPSU for my Atom media center, and even that is overpowered...

The 90W will go into another Mini-ITX build with a C2D Mobile in it...

Got myself a wattmeter to measure power draw at the main socket, and I did a few brief tests on my own machines last night :-

A64 3700+ (S754), 8800GT (SFF desktop), Min Watts=120, Max Watts=170
C2D T5500, 9800GTX+ (mATX desktop), Min Watts=80, Max Watts=160
C7 1.5Ghz, 8800GT (mATX desktop), Min Watts=100, Max Watts=140
C2D T7200, GMA 950 (laptop), Min Watts=20, Max Watts=55
C2Q Q9550S, GTX 285 (mATX desktop), Min Watts=100, Max Watts=280
PS3 'Fat' (console), Min Watts=170, Max Watts=200
PS3 'Slim' (console), Min Watts=76, Max Watts=90 (Edit)
Xbox360 (console), Min Watts=150, Max Watts=170
Macbook (laptop), Min Watts=35, Max Watts=45
Atom 330 Zotac ION (SFF media center), Min Watts=30, Max Watts=35
ASRock ION 330 (SFF desktop), Min Watts=25, Max Watts=35 (Edit)

So nothing much surprising there, apart from the weedy power the Atom ION consumes, and the surprisingly low idle requirements of my main Q9550S/GTX285 rig. But everything in that list could manage on a <300W PSU if need be...

I was testing a customers PC the other day through such a device. It was an Athlon64 5000, 4GB ram, with two Hdds and a 4670 GPU.

I think the max I managed to squeeze out of it was around 165W.
