Hello everyone. I have had a SN85G4 for about three months now, trouble free, running very well etc etc.
I have a 3200+ w/ 1 gig of Cosair Value Ram
SATA Maxtor
GeForce 5200
Nothing is overclocked.

Turned it on - fan did not turn on - discovered that the fan header (#1) went bad ...

2 weeks go by ..

Fan header #2 seems to be not working now ....

I did do a quick fix ...

I took a Y Adapter - Female 3 pin to (2) 4 Pin Molex .... I have no control of the fan (which is fine).

Now I get a new error - running Windows 2000...

"no kernal component" as its booting up...
It does boot into windows and what not - but anyone know what the error means?

Thanks.

sounds like something is not right there (i didnt really need to tell you that though) It seems that the board must be bad or something, the headers will get power from the ATX supply, maybe a dodgy capacitor or Vregulator? Is the unit under warranty?

I registered just now to reply to you,

I have had 3 generations of shuttles, I had the SN85G4, it worked pretty much perfect.

Although it did burn out 1 or 2 over a few years, fan connection points, I am up to the last connection point now, I had to extend the fan cable to reach it...
Also, I had to return it after a few months because the ICE fan wore itself out, however it only costs 35$AUD to replace it after warranty so that was fine.

The box does sometimes shutdown under very heavy cpu load, when on the low noise smart fan setting in bios. Rarely.

It doesn't boot from SATA HDD's either, as far as I can tell.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I now have SN25P, it worked fine for 1 whole year, then it started to make my SATA HDD click and loose power and crash my computer randomly. I have now started to boot off a IDE HDD, works fine sofar. But the problem is intermittant so I will see.

Conclusion: My next computer will definitely be a full chasis, Shuttle's just arn't worth the trouble, although they do have their 'small' advantages.
