Hi,
I have a Shuttle SN41G V2, which I was hoping to install a Geforce 6200LE into. This graphics card is the 256MB AGP version.
The Shuttle itself is running Vista, and working fine with the onboard Geforce 4MX graphics. However having installed the 6200LE, I see the bios screen, then the Vista startup screen, but before I see the desktop all I get is a black screen with a few flickers of red.
To install the card I did:
- Booted the machine normally, and removed any existing NVidia drivers
- Turned the machine off, and installed the 6200LE
- Booted the machine (Which made it to the desktop with the standard VGA driver)
- Vista then decided to go fetch a new driver for this card
- After a reboot all I get is a black screen with a few flickers of red
I have tried various older drivers for this card but still hit the same issue. I have also tried running a driver cleaner to remove any trace of the previous drivers.
I have also tried the card in another system(XP) (which is happily running a Geforce 6600), and get the same problem.
Having mentioned this issue to a XFXForce Technical Support member, they suggested that the power supply was too weak in my Shuttle (250W). The other PC I tried it in also only had a 300W power supply. Does this sound like the issue ? If so how come the other PC is capable of running a Geforce 6600 card, which I assumed to be more power hungry ?
Or is this likely to be a driver issue ? A Bios setting issue ? Or a duff card ?
Any help or suggestions, greatly appreciated! |

i'd put my money on the card being the party pooper.
initially it sounded like drivers but the fact that it reacts the same on both systems makes me think it's the card.
if it was the psu in both rigs being weak, i'd figure you'd see other signs of problems.
check your pc health feature in the bios. also a digital multimeter would even better.
