|
|
|
I've been getting some random freezes and shutdowns with my SN45G v3. My specs are as follows:
-Shuttle SN45G V3
-2 x 512MB PC2700
-Barton 2800+
-Raddy 9800PRO
-WD SATA 160GB HDD
-Samsung 52x CDRW/DVD Combo
-Windows XP
I have tried numerous NForce driver versions - Just wondering which ones you would recommend? Ive tried the 5.10s, 2.45s and the latest remix ones but the same thing happens. Im just about to try the 3.13s.
I removed the shim from my cpu about 1 hour ago, which seems to have decreased temps slightly.
Currently running the 4.12 Cats, also tried the 5.8s.
Cheers

Hey Tom!
The 9800 Pro has a large power demand that can cause problems with the small PSUs in SFF - if you have another video card you might try that to see if it resolves your issues.
Details of power consumption:

What have your temps been running?
Are you running the PC2700 OC'd?
If so, have you run Memtest on them?

Hi Mate
I have also had some artefacts in games and 2d corruption in windows so Im starting to think that this is a dodgy gfx card.
The mem is fine I think as I had it running ok in my old rig, but I've ordered some new PC3200 anyway coming later this week. Im running them at normal speed.
The PSU is a 250W SilentX so should cope with the raddy, but if the new raddy and the new ram still give me probs then I'll change the PSU for a new one.
My temps are around 50 for the CPU i think.

The 250W PSU can cope w/ a 9800. I had a 9800 256MB card running off it fine in my original SN45G system.
It sounds like a bad card.
Also, get RAM that is certified with the nF2 system. Crucial and Mushkin are all known to work well.
Crucial has their memory selector that lets you pick which Shuttle your using and then recommends their different part numbers.
I've got Ballistix Tracer in my Shuttle system right now actually. Before that I had the Mushkin RAM. |

Testing the RAM would be my first reflex.
Nforce2 is very picky with its RAM and even if it worked in another system, it is no proof that it will work in this nforce2 (even 2 different brands nforce2 MB can have different preferences).
As stated, prefer good brands memory. |

Yup, I agree with Frenchy - every config is different - especially with nForce2
Once I find an FSB & timings I plan to run for awhile I run Memtest overnight to ensure the rig is "stable" - I usually include a 10-12hr run of Prime as well.

Good Luck!

Ok, This weekend I changed the RAM for some Kingston Value Ram PC3200, changed to a 2500+ and put a 9800 non pro in.
Still getting freezes.
Now gonna do a fresh install of windows - see if that help. Can anyone recommend the best Nforce drivers to use? (i.e. stable on their SN45G ?)
Failing that I can get access to another PSU and see if thats the prob.
Cheers

Hey this is really interesting I also have the same prob, I have a SN45G v3 and I get random crashes even if the pc is just turned on and im not even using it,
I'm running:
GeForce 6600GT 256mb
2x HDD seagate
1 gig of veritech ram
dvd burner ( LiteOn )
xp 2700+
last week i had a geforce 6600gt 128mb card in it and it had a random freeze and then the card was stuffed and would'nt work anymore, even with the new card it still has the crashes.
when windows loads back up i get an error message " the system has recovered from a serious problem" i click send report and i get information back saying it crashed due to a driver.
I've tried all different drivers for my hardware and still no change.
any help on this matter would be welcome
