ok guys, I have and EP9NPA+SLI mobo, Corsair 1GB(2x512Mb) value select RAM and for some odd reason when my system is running (its been running most of the day at this point without a problem) my system speaker will beep, just once short and quick. indicating a memory problem generally, correct? one of my friends suggested that it may be having a problem if the slots are silver plated and the ram is gold plated, the thing is i don't know if the slots are silver or gold plated? I also checked to see if the values for my RAM were correct in the bios and they do check out according to corsair's website:
CAS: 2.5
TRCD: 3
TRP: 3
TRAS: 8
any other ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks

Contact materials (gold or silver) won't matter. If it's memory problem, you may want to try running Memtest86 to check. The program is self-bootable and you can put it onto a floppy or a CD. Give the program a test run of say 12 hours or 3-5 full test loops of all the tests it perform on the memory. If there are any error, then you know it's the RAM. If not, then I don't know what the problem is.

It may be worth trying to take the system apart and then assembling it back together. There may be something you may have missed or a mistake you made in the process. Do you set your RAM to its SPD/auto timings or do you set it manually? Also of importance is if the CPU is overclocked or not. These are general questions that I'd ask... but let's try to gather as much info as we can to see if we can narrow it down. Also, I hope you got a 2nd system around as it can be useful to have to check if it's the motherboard or the RAM or whatever.

The only reason I thought of contact materials is because my crazy friend was like well if it's a sliver to gold contact there may be some oxidation going on. anyway, i tried running memtest86 and right away it gives me this error: EMM386: Warning: Address Line A20 already enabled. As a result I went slogging around on forums because I wanted to know what it was about and on one of them someone mentioned something about A20 in the bios, but there's nothing like that in my bios.

system: Epox 9NPA+SLI Socket 939 Nvidia nForce 4 mobo, MSI RX800-TD128E Radeon X800 DDR PCI e video card, Rosewill RV400S-2 ATX12V 400W psu, Corsair ValueSelect 1GB (2x512MB) 184-pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400(PC3200) (autotimed), 2 Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB 7200RMP IDE Ultra ATA 100 Hard Drives, AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 2.0GHz Socket 939 Processor (not overclocked), and i'm currently running windows Xp Home if that even matters.

Google got me a few results for that A20 thing... one of which lead me straight back to this site with this thread. They say it's related to the keyboard so there may be something about that in the BIOS. I haven't looked in the BIOS in a while so I have no idea if it's there.

it was just nero adding crap i didn't need, I discovered that I had to write it as a data disc and not a bootable data disc. thanks for looking though, i appreciate it. Funny, my computer hasn't beeped in awhile, it would be nice if the problem just worked itself out, as unlikely as that is. I ran the test 3 times thru and found no errors, but i'll run it tonight and see what it yields in the morning.
