Sony Has New Console In The Works, AMD Building Graphics :-

Sony is working on an as-yet-unannounced new gaming console, former AMD employees say, and the processor designer may play a key role in the new product.

AMD’s graphics technology is already used in Microsoft’s XBox 360 console. However, Sony’s PlayStation 3 — introduced in 2006 — relies on graphics technology from Nvidia.

Greetings!

It would be interesting if it used some Fusion thing.

Might do, but it probably wouldn't be powerful enough. Though judging by rumoured specs of the Wii U and Xbox 720 I don't think the console makers have quite the appetite to push the limits like how the 360 and PS3 did last time at launch. I think all three will be ~$300 or $400 max this time.

Main issue for a PS4 now then will be backwards compatibility, but then again the Xbox did it ok when they went Nvidia > ATI. I guess the PS4 might not have a Cell CPU either... :-k

The PlayStation 4, reportedly codenamed Orbis, may utilize custom chips based on AMD's A8-3850 APU and Radeon HD 7670 GPU, sources have told IGN, offering the combined performance of both integrated and discrete graphics processors.

Greetings!

Sony Interested in Interrupting Your Gaming with Commercials
The patent, discovered by webforum NeoGAF, was filed back in July 2011 under the moniker "Advertisement Scheme for use with interactive content." This scheme will warn players that their game is about to be interrupted momentarily with paid content, such as Sony's example of a soda commercial, before gameplay stops for a quick commercial. Once it's over, gameplay resumes.

It will also be possible for players to "rewind" a portion of the interactive content after the commercial.

Sony Rejects Web-Based PlayStation Console :-

Sony is planning a 2013 release for the successor to its PlayStation 3 console, people familiar with the matter said.

Consoles without optical drives would likely add to pressures on brick-and-mortar and online retailers that sell game disks.

But Sony decided against a download-only model largely because Internet connections are too inconsistent around the world, one of the people familiar with Sony's thinking said. Because game files are large, customers in countries where Internet connections are relatively slow would be hobbled by a requirement to download games, the person said.
