I guess Blu-ray is inevitable, though Sony will be getting a royalty cut out of every Xbox sold this time! :)

This will probably be the last round of console hardware with Optical media I guess too, it'll all move to digital downloads soon enough.

Which will be of no concern for some and a pain in the behind for others, depending on the net connection used.

Tbh, there is a heck of a lot of digital only content for the 360 & PS3 already, including full games, so folks are already being persuaded into moving in that direction.

I'd imagine the optical media option might just be there for BC and the initial few waves of AAA games, but after a couple of years or so it might be DD all the way.

It all depends on the infrastructure. I don't know if cloud services would be able to take a fully digital gaming platform yet without choking. I don't know if they'll be able to in six years, twelve years, or eighteen. It all depends on too many things.

It would be funny if MS used a mid level GPU as is being rumored just so they could spike the amount of RAM in the machine. Hmm.

If they do go with something ~6670 based it'll be mainly because it's cheap and because the power consumption is reasonable enough for a console.

With say a 200W power limit that rules out any current high end GPU, so you are left with trying to make the best compromise. They'll want something reliable too, they won't want to get burned on RROD failures like they did last time.

considering the last unit ended up being redesigned with a CPU and GPU on the same chip I'd be surprised if this one wasn't designed as such to begin with, but who knows

I just want to know the specs/release date already o.o and probably won't until next year or very late this year

Yup, it'll probably be on-die with the CPU and if the console is going to be primarily Kinect based then they might be trying to go down the Wii route with something small, cheap (<$250), efficient and backwards compatible.

Hope not personally though, I still prefer to play games with a proper controller.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't Kinect based, but improved and most likely using USB 3.0 so not held up on the bandwidth and processing limits like the 360 is...which I suspect is why the games using it so far are rather limited scope.

I'd also be surprised if the traditional controller didn't also make an appearance, but I doubt it'll be the main one anymore. Hard to say.

USB 3.0 should be a given, and the Kinect functionality should have it's own dedicated processing unit (that's probably where an ARM CPU will come in).

~4GB of RAM would be nice too, and that would fit with the 8x jump (64 > 512MB) the 360 had over the original Xbox.
