K7N2 Delta-ILSR: stable at DDR333, unstable at DDR400

Postby hooverphonic » Sun Feb 07, 2010 7:28 pm

Hi there,

I'm beginning to think it's really the above board which is the culprit.
For the time being, I won't OC anything, for I first have to get this to run stably.
CPU is an older Athlon XP with which I'm using the SDRAM kit from G.Skill, F1-3200PHU2-2GBZX, actually meant to operate stable enough in DDR400 mode. Dual Channel is detected and also displayed at POST.

My Windows (XP & 7) never runs stable if DDR400 is set. Even though BSODs and/or crashes of the DWM (Win7 only) won't happen for hours, 3-6 hours later they WILL happen.

Besides, does my bios ignore FSB settings at times? Had in bog-standard FSB133 (DDR266) and 3:5 FSB:DRAM ratio for a starter. Multiplier = 7x.
CPU-Z only showed a (wrong?) multiplier of 15x, a bus speed of 100 MHz and a rated FSB at 200 MHz, although it should show bus @ 133 and rated FSB @ 266 if I set FSB = 133.

Could increasing tRAS (I got timings at 2-3-2-7) give me back stability in DDR400?
I'm not keen on trial-and-error, I'd like to UNDERSTAND the matter at first.
That aside, I also saw some lists on an OC's board, which had CL set to 3 with the same type of SDRAM.
(Any point in buying a CL2 set if you operate it at CL3 ? ;))

FSB need to be run in a divider or 1:1 with bus speed. you cannot run memory @ 400Mhz and FSB @ 333Mhz from what I remember

Hmm, this is strange. I can actually specify lots of ratios here: (FSB:DRAM) 1:1, 1:2, 3:5, 5:6 ... to name a few, so it should not be too much of a problem to figure out the correct one.
BTW I wanted to run SDRAM at 400 and bus @ 133 (FSB -> 266 DDR) - not "333" as you said. :o

I should also point out that this bios (Phoenix ForumTroll ) does not let you specify dividers of the CPU/n kind.

Well I will be more specific, you cannot run the memory faster than the bus speed from my experiences with the A7N8X-Deluxe R2.

Memory must not be faster than bus. Ah thanks, that might be the crucial point.

with the A7N8X-Deluxe R2.

Even though my trusty A7N8X-Deluxe is indeed the predecessor of my current mobo (how did you know lol?), I now have a MSI-6570 (K7N2 Delta-ILSR).
Dude, you would confuse me a lot less if you actually responded to things I explicitly mentioned instead of something different every time!

First you told about 333 although I clearly said "266".
Now you were telling about an "Asus A7N8X" although I clearly stated the board type on the thread subject.
Do you just skim over posts too lacklusterly or what is the problem on your side?
(Or maybe doing 5 things at the same time.)

And your point?

If I told him about my Vauxhall problem, then he would tell me about how he successfully managed to solve this on his Chrysler huh? Since those cars are as alike as 2 peas in a pod, yeaaah sure.
