I tried updating my BIOS using the Award Flash BIOS update software but it kept hanging at "programming flash memory" So I decided to manually force the BIOS into the mobo using RW77's brute force method.
I followed RW77's advice by typing in this command: AWDFLASH A:\1008.BIN /py/sn/Wb/cd/cp/Tiny/R
EXCEPT I replaced 1008.bin with the C18E1013.bin which is a premerged BIOS file.I was able to update my mobo from revision 1006 to 1013. My Silicon Image 3112a drivers are now updated to 4.2.84 as well.
I allowed my system to reboot with my existing XP install on my 500GB drive that was already running on the 1006 BIOS, however right after the POST messages where one would normally see the Windows XP splash screen...nothing...just a blank and stayed like that after 5 minutes of waiting....hmmmm.
I then disconnected my 500GB and attached the new 1TB drive, which was detected properly by the updated Sil 3112A 4.2.84 driver. I booted from CD at the appropriate time, hit F6 and started to install Windows XP on the new drive. Windows installed fine and the system auto rebooted at the appointed time. However, once the system rebooted and went through the POST, it hangs right at the point where the Windows XP splash screen should appear. Again, nothing ever else happens....it just stays hung there on a black screen.
I have reset my new BIOS to default, but to no avail. I then tweaked it to how I would like it to be, still no go. I will next try and install Windows 7 to see if it is something I can overcome with an O/S change as I do not want to go back to my old BIOS or 1008D (sans silicon image add-in).
What should I do next?
