NF7 2.0 FSB/RAM settings

Postby toploader25 » Tue May 06, 2008 3:45 pm

Hi there.

I currently have a 333Mhz FSB Athlon 2800xp barton running with 1Gb of 333Mhz CAS2.5 Ram.

I have got my hands on 1Gb of CAS3.0 400Mhz Ram. All i wanted to know is whether I can run the Ram at 400Mhz without overclocking the 333Mhz FSB of the processor. I can see in the BIOS there are dividers but I havent a clue what settings to put them on.

Also I am after a simple modded BIOS that allows you to set 1T for the RAM. I have looked through all the BIOS mods on here and over sites but am a bit confused :? A simple 1T on /off feature is all I am after.

Any help much appreciated.

I'm thinking back several years, so don't carve this information in a rock.

Yes, you can raise the memory speed to 400MHz (DDR) while keeping the processor at 333MHz. Ironically, in my experience with this setup, memory performance is actually decreased. Turns out it's better/faster to have the memory running in sync with the processor (1/1) than to have the memory running faster.

Sorry, I can't help you with a modded BIOS.

About modded BIOSes:
Here you have moded BIOSes for Abit NF7 v2.0: http://members.lycos.co.uk/bios/Merlin/Moded%20D27/
BIOSes with "C" letter at the end are CPC OFF...
BIOSes without "C" at the end are CPC ON...
If you want you may test all of them but personally I recommend you newest available BIOS from the link above: D27_TaiPan_0.3_ED_Bpl_3.19_28.12.04.rar
About FSB-DRAM:
@Propjock is right - synchro (1:1) RAM is better and faster!
