can't apply TCP/IP settings

Postby tomchook » Tue Jun 30, 2009 11:57 am

Hello,
I'm using this network adapter: nVIDIA nForce4 (CK8-04) - LAN Controller (PHY: Marvell 88E1111/1115) PCI

I go (on Windows XP pro SP3) to Network Connections > right click on Local Area Connection > properties > and properties of Internet protocol (TCP/IP) > choose "Use the following IP address:" > input the details, including preferred DNS (which works on other computers) > and click "ok"

I don't get any error message, but when I check the properties again, it goes back to "Obtain an IP address automatically".

This way I can't open ports on my router, and it's really frustrating. I always check for hardware updates on Windows Update, and I have the latest.

What should I do?

Thanks!
Tom K.

if you can reserve a IP address for a specific MAC address on your router, then leaving the config at auto would be fine.

DHCP would automatically set the address to the same thing
