A7N8X-E - 1TB HD not working

Postby skilef » Fri May 01, 2009 11:46 pm

Hi there,

First post here, but looking at the info and success rate on other forums/websites I decided to take my chances here... ;)

I am trying to install a 1TB Western Digital drive on a computer (with the ASUS A7N8X-E deluxe) of a friend. Regardless of the Bios-version (tried anything up till 1013), the PC hangs after POST: the drive shows up but no size is displayed and the PC hangs.

I have tried Trats bios, Uber bios and even merged the original ASUS BIOS myself (CBROM) with the latest Silicon Image 3112 (4.2.84) drivers and although the drive is recognized then all of a sudden, Windows XP does not boot: the logo shows up for a fraction of a second but then I get a BSOD (incorrect boot device). This happens on both the original drive (which still works fine with a 1013 BIOS with older SI drivers) and the 1TB, on which I have decided to install a fresh copy of XP with the 1013 BIOS and latest SI drivers enabled.

Does anyone have any alternatives, either by 'fixing' Windows to boot properly or by making the SI RAID controller recognizing the device? I have another PC at my disposal that recognizes the 1TB-drive just fine. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Regards,
Feliks
