Sorry it didn't work. I've got a different configuration. My boot HD is a Maxtor 120 IDE on HDD-0 pri. IDE controller and I have 2 SATAs for media, data and backup. I will say that it seems that this board's SATA controller is flakey at best and I haven't had good luck using SATAs as boot drives. Go buy a WD 80g. IDE (Newegg or Zipzoomfly)as your boot and put 2 SATAs on as your backup and data drives. Or better yet buy a 3Ware 8006-2LP 2-Port SATA RAID Controller PCI-X Card and put your SATAs there (PCI). It's a totally bullit proof controller and they show up on E-bay for around $60 bucks. If I were to go to a SATA boot I would do that. The only other option is a new Motherboard but I love this one.

PS I'll link this post to my brother. He has had a lot of experience with this board and might have some advice.
Signed up just to thank rw77 for his custom BIOS (1008B + 4.2.84 Sil).
I flashed it using the built-in flash utility (alt-F2), reading the new bios file from a good old IDE floppy drive.
I am booting from an old IDE drive. And I now have two SATA2 Samsung spinpoint 1TB (HD103UJ) drives running in linux software RAID1.
So I have NO experience with booting from SATA, using BIOS RAID, or running Windows with this controller/BIOS.
I hope this encourages people who are experiencing non-functional SATA2 disks to give this custom BIOS a try.
Note: I did NOT have to change the drives in any way (to lower the communication speed using software or jumper).
