Abit quits motherboard business

Postby powerarmour » Thu Aug 28, 2008 2:47 pm

Sad to hear... :-

HEXUS.channel can exclusively confirm that Taiwanese technology company abit, which is associated primarily with high-end and gaming mainboards, will stop producing all mainboards at the end of 2008.

HEXUS.channel has confirmed this as fact from sources close to South East Asian distributors, all of which will be notified by their abit sales contacts from today onwards.

Apparently abit will continue to deliver mainboards until the end of the year and will honour RMAs and warranties for three years subsequently.

Long live the NF7-S... (and the old NV7-133R, I had one of those too...)

Was this a result of the fall of AMD? AFAIK Abit sold primarily AMD mobos.

If so, it will probably take other mobo makers along...

I think abit hit the financial skids anyway last year prior to being bought by USI, and although abit did still sell both Intel and AMD boards they never quite recaptured the enthusiast magic they had when Oscar Wu was there IMHO.

Other than being beaten out of the market by Asus & Gigabyte, I think there just wasn't any money left in it anymore.

After just getting an abit nf7-s now to replaced my Asus A7n8x Deluxe rev 2.0 I wish i had gone with abit before .

I was hoping to go with abit for a future build but here's to hoping USI will do them justice if they make boards available for the public to buy.
