SATA HDD corruption fix, NOTE TO SELF!

Postby Mystiqq » Wed Apr 18, 2007 11:43 pm

This is the second time ive had to fix this. Its been a "while" from the last time so i forgot what was the cause. Fortunately i had a gut feeling it had something to do with my bios update, or more precisely the cmos reset, but couldt really remember what setting it was...

From the other forum (the url above).
Problem resolved !!!!!!!!!

After hours of searching for answers. I tried everything. Finally I come accross a post stating the p2p ext bios setting has to be set to 1ms. Well I had no idea that this had anything to do with the problem. Abit sets it to 30us and even in the manual it says not to change this bios setting from its default. So I was like ok I shouldn't mess with it then. But after reading that this is the cause of the data corruption I was experiencing I began to wonder why Abit designed the bios to have that set to 30us by default and then tell you in the manual not to mess with that setting. Ah well I'm very happy that I have finally found the answer and now have not problem with corruption.

In sort, its the EXT P2P DISCARD TIME SETTING. SET IT TO 1MS (even though they explicitly state the opposite in the bios!).

Grrrr...

Yeah, that why some (if not all) BIOS modders out there set this option to 1ms by default in their BIOSes
