lmao, with the banter between chippy and squall, nowonder these posts were split into a new topic.

my replacement mobo still hasn't arrived yet so i can't tell whether or not i'm still getting any sound issues since before i tried the 165 drivers, but i don't remember having any problems since...

sad that creative have been using poor quality capacitors, i sent them my card to test and/or replace at one point but they sent it right back to me with another "test ok" sticker on it.

if i knew how and had the kit to replace the caps i'd love to do it myself just for the peace of mind that my high spec sound card really is high spec...

if only Squall lived in the UK ;p

It could be a combination of things causing the noise. I've run creative cards on nf mb's for several years now and I've never experienced the noise that so many people complain of yet people clearly have an issue with it. I wonder if it could be a combination of bad caps along with the pci latency if both are just enough out of spec for it to become an issue during certain calls on the bus. Just a thought. Yes I pulled my x-fi out of the box and looked at it and witnessed the cheap caps. I'm not using it because creative hasn't given vista users a driver/utility package that is anything remotely close to what we had in xp. I became so frustrated with the subpar sound that I pulled it and went to using the onboard audio.

have you tried the YouP-PAX Software ?

^^ That software pack, along with the latest drivers from creative have worked perfectly fine for me ;D
