Dual boot - XP and Vista

Postby redbeardeddevil » Sat Jun 02, 2007 3:42 pm

Hey guys, I have recently repartitioned my main drive and installed Vista<insert jokes here>. I just wanted to try it out first hand and be able to walk some of my clients through basic tasks. My question is, how do I set up F@H to work out of the same file so that I am running F@H as a service in both OSs but using the same two work units(I am running dual core)? I only run Vista maybe 20-25% of the time but I don't want to lose out on that valuble time crunching proteins and I dont want to start new units just in Vista.

I'm fairly new to folding, so everyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd probably set up a separate logical drive, so the data won't get messed with every time you boot to the different OS.

You would have to run the installer on both OS's to make sure it gets set up as a service on both(if you're running the service version), but once that's done and both Windows versions know where it is and to run it as a service, all the pertinent info is kept in f@H's directory, so it won't care which OS you're running.

For me F@h runs just as well on Vista as it does on XP (comparing both x64 verisons)

The only way to try out whether they will both share and work in the same folder is to just try it, but I'm sure it would work if you ran the install.bat file each time.
