howdy guys, need some info

Postby caz223 » Fri May 25, 2007 5:57 am

Ok, most of you won't remember me, but I used to fold here, and I checked my stats today, and am shocked to find that I'm still #6 on the team.
What has been going on?
Ok, if I were to start folding again, what client is better, the CPU, or GPU client.
What video cards are supported?
Boy, I've been out for a long time.

Hey there, I'd recommend the CPU SMP client, especially if you have some C2D's, but the WU's can still take up to a couple of days.

I've got a couple of SMP clients running that usually give me a steady 1500-1700 PPD.

(But I also have a PS3 which gives a solid 1200 PPD itself also when I can remember to leave it on... :) )

Well it would be awesome to have you back. We could do with some more firepower at the moment.
I only started up here half way through last year( I think)

To my limited knowledge, the gpu client only supports Radeon 1900/1950 cards. I believe it returns more points than the cpu version though, although as Powerarmour said the new smp client gives pretty impressive results.

What would be really good though, is if you could buy maybe half a dozen PS3s' and fire them up.

It won't be too long until the GPU client supports the x2xxx series. It's in beta.

I think that if you use the GPU client though you can't use the CPU client for one core.

Ok guys thx for the help.
I guess the GPU client is out.
I'm thinking about getting a C2D system made up, and I can't make up my mind between the E4300 and the E6320.
I want to get over 3ghz speed, at very least.
Ok, here's what I got so far:
Kingston ValueRAM 4Gb 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KVR800D2N5K2/2G - OEM
4 sticks, 1 gig each. Right off asus approved list.
ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
Good basic board. Solid, from what I've heard.
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale 1.8GHz LGA 775 Processor Model (retail.)
I heard it explained that because of the 9x multiplier of the allendale chip, it will naturally clock higher with 800 mhz RAM, but I'm new to intel boards, all my builds have been AMD dating back to the DX4-100.
Is the 4300 the right move, or will the 6320-6420 clock just as high with the same RAM?
Did I mention that I live in allendale, Michigan? No lie.

Greetings!

The E4300 has 2MB L2 cache, the E6x20 have 4MB L2 cache.

How high are you confortably overclocking to?

Without overclocking the RAM:
E6320 - 7x400=2800Mhz DDR2-800 at 1:1
E6420 - 8x400=3200Mhz DDR2-800 at 1:1
E4320 - 9x400=3600Mhz DDR2-800 at 1:1 -> My only reaches 2,9-3,0Ghz without increasing vcore to values I am not confortable with.
7HPx64 - P55 - i5 750 - 8GB - HD5850 - 120GB - 2TB - 22" - 650W

Thanks impar.
That's just what I was looking for.
So, for me the one to get would be the 4300, 4400, or the 6420.
I see a 4300 in my future. It helps that the 4300 is $114 from newegg!!!
I'll be using the zalman 9500 cooler and a pc power cooling 850SSI, so I can't imagine not hitting 3.2 unless I don't have any luck at all.
It's just a relief knowing that the 800 ram won't be holding me back with the 4300.
Now, you can lower the multi on C2D systems, just like current AMD boards, right?
