cant complete vista installation.blue screen in last step

Postby k0rp0rate » Sat Jan 20, 2007 5:19 pm

Hi all!

After reading some post about installing vista in nforce2 mobos, I decided to install in a separate partition for testing purposes...

I have an ASUS A7N8X DELUXE (1.0), at first all seems to go ok during installation, but in the last step, finishing installation just before the first Vista sesion... I get a horrible blue screen of death :(

I can't see what says the blue screen because it only appears for less than a second and after the system reboots.

I have tryed to install four times, and always get the same...

Someone can help please??

I've got the same board and the exact same problem
I have an Athlon XP 2500+ Barton
A7N8X-E Deluxe upgraded BIOS 1013
3x1GBPC3200=3GB - I tried removing different chips and starting with less ram
I removed all optional usb/firewire cards and external devices.
Video - ATI Radeon 9800Pro using DVI
Disconnected my 2nd DVD Drive and my SATA drive
I even removed the legacy mouse and unplugged my USB Keyboard after the keyboard check
Installed a brand new 120GB IDE drive.
Tried setting all bios settings to default
Tried turning off onboard audio, 1394 and LAN
Tried underclocking CPU to 133mhz to an XP 1900+

So all I have plugged in is the power, dvi monitor and occasionly the usb keyboard

Yet I still get the BSOD right after Vista Installation completes from DVD Enterprise Edition. It is on 1st boot that it gets the BSOD. It appears to be doing a dump of memory then restarts... now I recorded the BSOD on my camcorder which allowed me to read the error being some device driver caught in a loop.

Big help that is.

Edit - I've also used this Vista install disk on my laptop and no problem installing on it, so the install DVD is good.

using the memtest on the Vista CD it passes. I have removed my single 1GB chip because it is generic and doesnt have the CLS posted on it.

I'm currently running my 2GB matched set from Kingston.

Would probably lay the issue on Asus' door somewhere. So far they've been even more ignorant of Vista than Creative and Nvidia put together. I've installed Vista on 4 Nforce2 systems in the last month including my own. 1 x DFI, 2 x Abit (one AN7 is mine) and an Asus. All were fine, except the asus.

I'd disable absolutely everything in the bios not required to start the computer and reenable as you go along.

I spoke to a chap called BiBi from Asus the other day re drivers for an Asus Wifi card I have in my system. He didn't understand what i meant by "Vista" :(
Moo.

Do not install the Windows update nVidia drivers for Vista and that will do it. The PCI one will give you the BSOD.

I had the same problem installing vista, make sure your bois has vga agp\pci set to agp and I used a Rage 32Mb videocard to install Vista then swapped in my 1650 when everything was clear.

I had a bluescreen when Vista used the Micrsoft RV530le driver, I had to go safe mode and update to the ATI driver folder...........I later seen I had my bios VGA set to PCI instead of AGP yesterday after months of using it with no problems but it may be why I had issues installing.

I also tried installing Vista to my new Sata and had the same issues......It takes a long time to create a format 100's of GB and trasfer files, I gave up and used my IDE drive, I plan on getting a 939 agp board and using this on 98SE again, I never had any issues with it, just could'nt install new stuff, which sucks but 98SE was easy as pie.

Thank you this post helped me out.

I swapped out my ATI9800128AGP for a lowly 32MB Generic AGP card, set my bios settings down as low as I could, and it worked perfectly now

After a few restarts, I attempted to put just about everything back.... it froze on my 3rd stick of 1GB RAM so I had to leave it out  ... I only have 2GB now  . Put the orig ATI 9800 card back in too

Thanks for the help. Now I can start learning how to use this beast before my work starts deploying this fall.
